Barkley (Ruth) public housing development opens.

Architect: Harold Field Kellogg. Originally the Cathedral housing development, it is designed in the Modernist style and located at 1472 Washington Street. The complex of yellow brick buildings includes a number of ten- and 13-story buildings surrounded by smaller buildings. It is renamed for the longtime resident and tenant leader in 2013. [508]
